January Reflections and Resolutions

January 14, 2016

Mid jan and I haven't fully committed to the changes I've wanted to make this year. I've only gotten in 105 min of intentional exercise and my eating is all kinds of stupid. Though I'll be preg/nursing for at least another year I can not wait any longer.

I have no clue what I weighed back then but I know what I felt like and what I feel now is awful. I need to move more ads east better. That's it. That's my goal finishing out this month and for February. Move 15-30min a day during the week and sitting to how I feel on weekends.Less coffee, less carbs, and mor. e water.

A Simple Way to Make Your Workouts More Intense

May 17, 2013

SOI'm a stay at home-mom who's apart of a one car family and hubby works 5x week. The gym is not an option. Even if it were, who can afford childcare. Not me and I'm ok with that. I grew up with a Jane Fonda lovin' momma and have watched her workout at home since I was a little girl. It's not hard for me to push myself or so I thought.

Here's a super simple easy way to push harder.
Fear :)

I do have to say that after watching myself I really need to improve my form. Maybe I'll show you the said video, maybe not. It's pretty hideous :) TurboFire Schedule.

God Approved WOrkMAN!

May 5, 2013

After getting out of the habit of reading my bible first thing in the morning these past few months I did what all normal people do and blasted myself on Facebook. You know, because that motivates you. In my case, sometimes. This morning after getting up with the baby like I normally do I played one full round of Candy Crush Saga on my phone (because candy can't crush itself) and drained my battery. After locating my phone charger  I sat down to read my bible on YouVersion (love that app). I realized how high a priority I've placed a game over God, and not just lately but quite frequently, intermittently. The featured verse spoke directly to me.
'Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.' 2 Tim 2:15 AMP

Yesterday, while trying on clothes on a much needed mommy's night out ALONE, I didn't get depressed. I used to. I didn't stare myself down in the mirror disappointed in what I saw. I normally am. I'm conquering my weight, body image, and self esteem issues and this verse explains how. I have to look to God, know His will, study His word. I'm not pleased with where I am physically/mentally but, I'm doing something to change it with His help.

A workman (re)discovering who they are in Christ
has no cause to be ashamed.

12 in 2012 Reading Challenge

April 25, 2012

I saw this idea over at Simple Brittany except she's a bit more adventurous than I. In the year 2012 she's set a goal to read 52 books. That's a book a week y'all! Even though I finished the Hunger Games trilogy in 14 days, reading that many books in a year is something I just couldn't commit to. Those 14 days were not beneficial for my house, my kids, my hair, or anything else. Reading shouldn't take you away forever like that and that's a problem I know I have but I really do enjoy reading as an escape from my mommy life even if only for a few minutes. Miss Katniss was just too hard to put down, I still haven't seen the movie.

So I'm thinking of a smaller commitment, just one book a month. Since I've read the HG trilogy there's my 3 for January, February, and March, right? I don't really have a set genre but I'd really like to work on a few self improvements. I already have quite the arsenal sitting on my shelf and really need to dig in absorb all the juicy goodness I have available. For the month of April I plan to finish my book, Have a New You by Friday: How to Accept Yourself, Boost Your Confidence & Change Your Life in 5 Days. Hubby bought it for me last year and I've not gotten past the first few chapters, I know he'll be proud of me. Pretty sure my kids will appreciate it too.

The real title should be, Be a New Mom by Friday
Start now or join me in May!

Be on the look out for more book reviews and if you've read any of the upcoming books or have suggestions let me know and I'll check it out. If this goes well I may just shoot for 13 in 2013, whew that may be pushing it.

#HomeMomHealth: Reboot Juice Fast

October 9, 2011

Rebooting my life, Today! I can't waist anymore time. I'm feeling urgent pressure, not from anyone but that I have to lose my extra weight and do it quick. Almost like an internal ticking. I feel anxious. My weight has caused me some small but ill effects. Spine misalignment, hiatal hernia, and joint pain. It's very scary that this list could be bigger, these are only things I can physically feel or see, what about my heart, my blood, the things I can't see? With four kids, The Hubs and I are constantly asked, "is this it? Are you having anymore?" My answer is always, "We don't know".

What I do know is I don't want to have another fat overweight pregnancy. I've carried 40lbs or more with every pregnancy. Our bodies were designed to work. They can't do their jobs if they're fighting the extra fat  that gets tacked on and stays. This is my life, I have some pretty big responsibilities that need me. The Five most important people are my babies, my wonderful hubby. I don't know what tomorrow holds but I do know what happens to those I love who don't treat their bodies right.

The rest of this post has been moved to
Where I'll be blogging only health and fitness from home. Gym not included.

I'm bringing my Before-Baby-Body Back!

September 5, 2011

Yep! I wanted to title this post 'I'm bring sexy back'. In my opinion they're two in the same. Why as women are we so secretive about our weight and age? I never did get that. The only reason it makes sense to me is if women are hiding behind poor decisions maybe. I mean I was 20 something before, the choices I made then are catching up to me now. I drank and partied too much in college when I could have been working on good eating and sleeping habits. Over the years I've gained 80lbs since being at my lowest of 143 right after military boot camp. So I can't blame it all on babies.

I don't want to hide anymore. Hi, my name is Christy and I'm 5'6 and weigh 219lbs. Why am I so bold in sharing this? I have a new found confidence that I can take this extra baggage off. If you've been following me lately you know I've lost 5 inches in 30 days of using Lindsay Brin's 60Day Slimdown System. There's no measure of energy to tell you how my levels have been affected these past 39 days but they've improved and yet some thing's still lacking. I feel tired but I do more. Before I felt like doing nothing and did exactly that. Now thankfully I get more done in the day but  I really do feel tired still. What's going on?

Today I wanted to share with you a concept that not too many people are aware of. I was aware but forgot until recently. This is a trailer for the movie Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead. If you have netflix, watch it in it's entirety instantly. My goal can not be to get skinny anymore. I want to be healthy and live long and strong.

I have to tell the truth, I've not been following Lindsay's nutritional plan. You'll find a few 'count-your-calories' type of plans on her site. I can not count calories nor do I want to. I have too many things to keep track of then add up numbers all day. She mentioned a much more realistic type plan on one of her DVDs. The plan is called the plate method and it's not a diet. Here's how it works:

Cut your plate in half, fill one side with vegetables.
The other half, equal parts meat and whatever you want.

You can't give me that kind of head room, there's just too much freedom. I'm an all-in or nothing sort of girl. I'll over indulge and eat, or I'll eat very little any given day. Right now I need help in finding that middle ground. I know I need to eat more vegetables. I like vegetables but I can't seem to wrap my taste buds around making them a whole meal. I need a major detox. Fat is your body's way of protecting itself from harmful toxins. With these and past workouts I'm breaking down stored fat and exposing myself to stored toxins then feel a weird sluggish energy boost.
I'm not a doctor. I encourage you to do your own research and make your own conclusions. If you feel led and want please join me October 1st in a 10-15 day reboot. I'm currently on day39 with Lindsay's system and am so happy about the changes in my posture and abs. I have had fewer hiatal hernia incidents, I've been drinking more water, I've began running again too. I just know I need to detox and what better way to do it then a natural back to basics way.

Home-Mom's into Fitness: Day30
of the 60Day SlimDown System

August 25, 2011

It's not about weight, it's not about weight. Let me just repeat that a few more million times. My beautiful bean pole sister in law asked me if I had lost weight this past weekend. That should be a compliment right? All I could think in my head was "the scale doesn't lie". I know better than most that muscle weighs more than fat. Waaaay more! I've gained a pound since Day1, you'll see why this hasn't deterred me from quitting if you keep reading.

I've always wanted to be that skinny 120lbs
girl that all the height and weight charts promised I could be. LIARS!!!

After over a decade of trying and trying I now know that girl and those numbers will never be me. High school athletics got me down to 150, then the military got me to 143. I couldn't have gotten any lower without cutting off a limb. That used to be a serious thought.

I am losing weight, the scale can only tell how heavy I am and I'm gaining tons of new muscle thanks to Lindsay Brin's moms into fitness 60 Day SlimDown System. Muscle that I thought was there but apparently was not. This system really teaches mother's how to sit and stand properly again. Did I mention Lindsay is working out prenatal too! Read her blog for her video updates.

UPDATE: I can now do lunges!
(very slowly but correctly)

What I love about home workout systems is I can yell at the screen. You can't do that in a live class, people would think you were crazy .) Lindsay has really kicked my butt and I tell her so.
For the sake of this review I'm really trying to stay on point with my daily schedule. I did super awesome the first 2 weeks and then... [ paste excuses here ] excuses happened.

I am proud to say I've ran at least once a week thus far. I can't tell you how good it feels to run again. One of my fitness goals is to run 3-5 miles every morning. Still a long shot but I have the confidence to get there. Now I'm gearing up for phaseII. Like at half time I'm trying to catch my 2nd wind and finish the game only this is my life.

My #homemomif 30Day Measurments

Here's a deep thought for you...
You will only have as much energy as you need.
If a daily routine of washing dishes, washing/folding laundry, sitting at a computer, watching TV, sitting at a desk then I've got the amount of energy needed to do those things. Now that I've been working out and running my energy levels have exploded and I'm walking around the house looking for things to do. I find myself running up the stairs when normally I'd pause half way up. Gooo Christy!

Home-Mom's into Fitness: Day 1
60 Day SlimDown System

July 28, 2011

Today is day #1. The beginning of the rest of my life .) Everyday should be seen this way don't you think? For the next 60-90 days I will attempt to follow a weight loss plan and reach a goal that is based on health and reality instead of trying to go back in time to my before babies belly. Lindsay Brin from moms into fitness has encouraged me by saying I can get a body stronger and better than the one I had before.

I've been following Lindsay for some time through her blog, she bounces back from her pregnancy bod several times and documents it each time with photos, videos, and posts. It's pretty awesome to see it happen before your own eyes. She just had baby #3 and in a way I feel like I'll be working out with her even though she's got a definite lead over me.

How could I possibly get a better body than I had before. She doesn't know I was in the ARMY, or that I played basketball, softball, and ran track through highschool. I still think she may be right. Even though I tell you I'm a tough, strong girl, I can't do correct lunges.

What that tells me is I have some weak muscle groups that have been relying on other strong muscles. Rather then do things correctly I've always done what I could get away with. I'm excited to train my body and pay close attention to do things right the first time.

I'm literally jumping and can not wait to get started. As I track my progress for the next 30, 60 and 90 days I'll share with you my weight, inches, and energy levels. This by far should be one of the longest and most extensive review I've done to date. I plan to post at least once a week here on the blog but for more daily updates follow me on twitter (with hashtag #homemomif or #HomeMomHealth) and on facebook.

Birthday Resolution: SITS31DBBB

June 1, 2011

How to BlogEvery year on my real birthday I make up resolutions or things I'd like to change about myself or change in my life. I'm 30 now, I guess that's the magical number of reflection. My blog shouldn't be any different right? My big SITS-tah will be helping me get things in order. Hopefully I can stick to it this time. I tried to last year but as I recall I didn't get further than 3rd day.

Today's assignment: Write an elevator pitch. Something that sums up what your blog is all about. I wrote this last year:
Home is wherever mom is, meaning whatever mood mom's in the home will feel it. Helping moms see the connection between home and mom.
So this year I submitted:
Home is wherever mom is.
Making the connection in my life between Home and Mom, and helping others do the same.
I think I'd like to change it up and say... Making the Home better, one Mom at a time.

Is that too cheesy?

Want to join me on this totally awesome challenge? Get connected with the SITS girls, follow #SITS31DBBB on twitter, and Participate.

Vlog: Errands, Trains, and Automobiles.

May 19, 2011

The blog has gotten a makeover! I think my posts need one too. Have you heard of MamaKat'sLosin'It? Kat has really opened me up to the idea of vlogging, video blogging. Remember my first attempt here. That one was contingent on a review I had accepted and was scared to death. I pretty much procrastinated, GASP! Not me?! I used The Hubs' phone and did my 20 takes in our bathroom after the kids were all asleep. Fast fwd to today and I'm attempting to introduce the people I write about while driving one handed. OMGoodness!

I think I had a bit too much fun with this, my favorite line is "Wadup Choo-Choo!" My kids even used their code names. I forgot to remind them and thought they'd slip up. I hope you  consider jumping on this bandwagon with me over at MamaKat'sLosin'It. She is too funny and really makes me smile. I think I'm actually a week behind on this writing prompt thing but hey, I did it! Want to see more of my crazy kids? Visit my youtube channel @ChristyHomeMom.

Weight vs. Water

May 17, 2011

W
eightloss has always been a big deal in my family. I hate to say it by obesity and an obsession with weight has always always been an issue. I can remember when I was younger my aunts sating that I was too skinny. Then as soon as I got a bit plump my sides were pinched. These sort of things only have to happen once for you to gain a complex. Kids are sponges that way. They soak up so much but when you try to wring it out it takes all the more work.

I don't have a weight update per say. I am maintaining a whopping 210, 4 lbs under my before baby weight so progress is welcomed. I now own a scale after over a decade not having one. My dear friend blessed me with her extra. The scale always represented a curse. It told you whether or not you were going to have a good day or a bad one. One reason why I've never owned a scale.

It's now in my bathroom and I check once a week. I'm not doing any Turbo Jam, Zumba, or my new Kukuwa at the moment. The big focus for me now is to drink water. I truly believe if I were to just consume 1/2 a gallon of water a day I'd see a huge difference. So starting today I'm starting a water challenge. Drink over 8 glasses of water a day. To some of you this is so silly. I ended up in the ER a few weeks ago because I don't drink enough water. So here goes nothing.

Current Weight: 210
Weekly exercises: n/a
Daily water: 8 glasses

As the weeks progress I'll post once a week with a recap of the last week. I can't cheat because the results will speak for themselves.

Keeping the Cloth & Ditching the Rash

April 12, 2011

Cloth Diapers (CDs) for the rest of us. Disposables vs. Cloth Diapers, looking at what is best for everyone, the environment, the economy and oh so economical on your wallet. Cloth wins hands down. However the initial jump can be an extremely expensive one. The kind of jump that can make or break your bank. I was fortunate enough to have a great gal sale me some of her stash on the cheap but not everyone has that privilege. Since that time I've blogged here (in the beginning) and here (2 months in before the rash). Once lil turkey was born back in November my Moms, (my mom in law and aunt in law?) stocked us up pretty good with disposables. I had vowed I would not go back and was a bit saddened with the thought of failing CDs. I wasn't so sure at the time but I think the cause of lil dreamy's rash was soap build up on the diapers.

The first few months were great! I couldn't believe how easy diapering with cloth was. It most definitely was helping with our budget, eliminating the then $40 a month we allotted to spend on disposables. The hard part then became not knowing what to do with the rash issue, I really freaked at how severe it had gotten and so fast. There was serious wound on my baby's bottom and I had no clue how to remedy it.

My hubby and I are big supports of holistic medicines. They are the medicines that aid your body in to doing what it does best, healing itself. I don't believe in masking symptoms, but that's another story. So we tried things like lavender, coconut, and tea tree oils. We tried baking soda sprinkled in with baby powder. They helped but did not eradicate, so we used the butt pastes and creams and I was sure that stuff didn't help the diaper buildup either. This rash was serious and was not getting the time and air it needed to breathe and heal. I made CD detergents, I used several CD specific brands even and nothing seemed to work. With the suggestive but non forceful help of my Moms we went back to disposables.

Now here we are. I have 2 in diapers. I can still fit dreamy in size three and turkey is chunky so he fits them too. I've needed a bit of motivation getting back to CDs and the timing could not have been any better. I'm wondering about all the things I can do different this time. I got an email informing me of The Flats & Handwashing Challenge from DirtyDiaperLaundry.com. I was elated since rash problem seemed to manifest itself overnight with the AIO (all in one) type system.

Want to get in on this challenge? Stay tuned for more details. Not only will I change how I wash my Cloth Diapers, I will also try and use Target's flour sack towels, they run about $3.99 for a 4 pack. CDing moms are choosing these because they are absorbent cotton, have a trim fit, and are easy on the wallet. Using prefolds and flats are the best way to go for moms with little startup. You will need to use a cover as these are not waterproof. When we are at home we don't use a cover anyways. It helps me see stay on top of changing wetts and messies. Hubby bought the
"last box of diapers", he saw the savings cloth caused. Plus he's right!

Since we are on the last pack of diapers, by the end of this week I will be trying out more upcycled versions and hopping back on this wagon. After learning about what goes in the making of diapers and how they fill up our landfills I'm excited to go cloth once again.
UPDATE: Join here!
Helpful Resources:
The No Sew T-shirt Diaper
Tee Shirt Tie Diaper
Then to find some thrifted wool sweaters to make some upcycled wool diaper covers.
Also try Start Diapering at Home for Only $20 (no sewing required)

I will update later after I've tried boiling the diapers. Thinking a huge cause of the buildup was due lack of hot water in our wash room.

Halloween - The Aftermath

November 1, 2010

This post is motivated by the possibility of winning a Canon Rebel T2i Giveaway from the TheSitsGirls. Today I'm linking up our fun filled Halloween adventures. As I shared already I got to go on a DATE yesterday. Dreamy and I rarely spend time one on one or just adult to adult so this was a big deal to me. We went to cheer and support our local hockey team. The score was hideous but none the less it was really exciting. There were 2 fights total and tons of jeering. Our team lost 0-8 but that didn't stop our fans from taunting the other team. I came out of my 2nd hockey game still if not more confused. I don't get the fighting, why they leave their sticks on the ice once down, or how the heck they can even be precise on ice with that tiny black speck of a puck.

Posted pics of the kids costumes are HERE. The great thing about today is there are NO belly aches from "Junk Day" yesterday. Their Dee-Dee so lovingly told them after eating good food they could fill up on junk. With just 15 days to go I look like I am stuffed. Hope all of your treats were sweet!

I'm going on a Date - HeyHeyHey

October 31, 2010

Agood friend of mine and owner of Tulsa Hot Tub Rentals, LLC ran a contest on his facebook fan page for 4 FREE tickets to the Tulsa Oilers Game tonight and I WON! Dreamy and I will be kid-free (for a few hours atleast) to get away for our second hockey game date. I hope memories are better than the first one. We went and saw the Blazers in OKC back in college and somehow I got spewed chewed up popcorn in my hair from the gentleman behind me. I rocked the afro back then so that was pretty disgusting.

Since we got 4 tickets I decided to ask my mom who helped me win the tickets to come along. When I called her last night to share the news it was so cute. She asked what time I was bringing the babies she thought she'd be babysitting. I'm looking forward to a great date night, time with my mom, and later we may even get to help pass out candy.

I also want to share with you the halloween costumes I made for my kiddos.

Cheerleader - Go Ralph Lauren               The Elephant - Ballerina

...and Batman!

As a beginner sewer I think I didn't pretty darn good but really the joy was when they didn't want to take their costumes off. We've worn them friday, sat and tonight may not be the last night either ;)

Back to Blogging Day-1
with the SITS girls

September 13, 2010

Have you heard of the SITS Girls? They have helped me grow as a blogger and are a great network for bloggers of all levels. Want to improve your blog? Check them out, I promise you'll love 'em!

Monday, September 13
Assignment: Re-upload the first post you ever wrote on your blog. If interested, re-write that post, showing us a before and after look at the piece.

My very 1st Post: It Has Begun June 13, 2010
I am soooo new at blogging. Well technically I've blogged since 2008 but it was more from a journal standpoint. To keep people up to date with all the goings on of our family. Now I've taking a different approach. This is one of many blogs that I'm starting. I intend to provide some really intensive reviews about products that matter bunches to me and my readers. I hope you enjoy what is to come and if you want to know more about those things that I find passionate check out my family blog at www.home-mom.com. (soon www.home-mom.com will point here)

Update:  It Has Continued exactly 3 months later...
Back then, all of 3 months ago, I was trying to apologize maybe for not blogging the way I thought you should. By stating how new I was I hoped to defer all attention away from any grammar errors or just plain mess ups I might display. It took me almost a week to write and I had no clue what to say and who was listening. I'm not sure what I was talking about with the several other blogs I had planned. (This one has worn me out).

Lack of planning can do that to you, the other blogs are the projects my family plans to pursue to make us a WAHF (work at/from home family). I had planned to blog only 2 days a week. Tuesday and Thursday because it sounded cool to blog on T-days, no real reason. Since though I've not stuck with that plan. Drafting out and scheduling posts has to be one of the best ideas but I've not grasped it yet until this challenge. There are 5 topics and I plan to have them ready to go by this evening.

I can't say I would change anything about my 1st post but maybe I could have picked an actual topic to right about. Something of interest maybe to draw people in.

I'd like to thank SITS and the sponsors of this blogging event, Standards of Excellence, Westar, and Florida Builder Appliances. With out them there wouldn't be a chance to win an Electrolux Washer and Dryer sweetly named Thelma and Louise as the Sweepstakes prize.

Fly Lady Help Me!
Baby Steps Day 1: Shine your Sink

September 7, 2010

I would be so embarrased to let anyone see my house day to day. It takes me several days to prepare for company. Stress with a capital S = cleaning because it's not a daily routine for me. Well I'm calling in reinforcements, TheFlyLady. I've heard of, even attempted to try her plan before. I started her baby steps program yesterday...

Ok, that means go clean up my kitchen right? Well sort of, just get your sink tidy, clean up all the dishes and then shine your sink. It really has amazed me how many times I've dried my sink out since. Its still nice and clean after 24 hours. I've washed my dishes as soon as they hit the sink and its CLEAN! OMGoodness it really is soooo nice to see it and I do smile at myself for the small but very effective accomplishment. Can't wait until day 2!

Before...
weekend dishes always pile up like this

After...

I think I like my new sink too much to let that happen again!

Go WAHF?

September 2, 2010

Did I just make up a new acronym? Probably not but I like it and I want to keep it. Now that I'm blogging about it I know I can't but it's a thought right? It has been a dream of Mr. Dreamy's and mine since forever that we both work from home, we want to be a Work At Home Family. We've recently met some really great friends who do just that. They have an office with a divider and everything between the two of them and although their baby is in preschool for a few hours of the day (I secretly admire that) they can get work done and are financially sound.

So no I just like the idea of my kids being occupied for a few hours, I'm not doing to well in planning our days currently. We are a homeschooling family, our goal is to be as self-sufficeint from home as possible. 2.5 years ago we were able to make our budge work to allow for me to stay at home but since have really wanted to find a way for Dad too. I've begun my journey with JitterBum and am finding out that sewing is not like a sport that I can just pick up and roll with. I've cut my fingers, sewed legs together, and just well failed. I'm glad to say I'm failing forward, 8 diapers and counting. What is a dream you have for family? What are some ways you're working to acheive that goal? Can't wait to hear from you ;)
