30-Day Challenge
Day 7: Husband Encouragement

September 19, 2010

Finances are the root of most marital issues. Isn't this what we hear all the time? I can understand it too, dealing with money is tough. Well handling too little is a bit tougher than not knowing what to do with a lot. We've not had the luxury to have the latter problem. Mr. Dreamy is our bread winner. We've changed roles and I worked for 6 months while he stayed at home (back when we had just one) and to tell you the truth God was behind us. We made it, we knew that wasn't what we both wanted but it worked for that time.

Day Seven:    "Do not overwork to be rich; because of your own understanding, cease!
...for riches certainly make themselves wings..." Prov. 23:4-5

"That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, that I may fill their treasuries." Proverbs 8:21

Both my husband and I have different backgrounds when it comes to money, he had very little of it at times growing up, I did too but had spurts of splurges that made you forget you had less. I think we both come from a poor mentality background that affects us more than actually being poor. Not having enough only lasts for a time but thinking you'll never have enough is a mindset.

I've made the mistake in thinking that if I could handle all the finances then we'd have little to no issues, then to find out some of the biggest issues arise when I'm in charge. My husband is great at setting budgets. Early on in our marriage we blew away money because we could, we spent what we had and made more. When children started to become part of the picture we saw how unwise that was for our family. Our legacy called for more.

With the purchase of our first house we see how blessed we are and also see how still very dependent on our God we are. After each major blessing has come an equal if not bigger trial. It's hard for me not to collapse and wonder where God is but he's shown up every time in this short nine months. I purpose to praise my husband on his ability to make and manage money.

30-Day Challenge
Day 6: Husband Encouragement

September 12, 2010

Iam the more creative artsy person but Mr. Dreamy is pretty creative in his own right. He is a factual, technical genius. He gets gadgets, he gets technology. I recognize this in him and sometimes can get intimidated by how much he knows. This week is all about finding what his special knack is and praise him for it.

Day Six:                         "...whatever ye do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Cor. 10:31b

He is a great learner! If we have issues with the car he fixes it, not because he is a mechanical type guy but because he can go research the model of our car find diagrams then go get parts and fixes it. I'm the muscles so sometimes we have to work together to finish what he's started but there is no way I'd be able to do all that he can. He is one of the silliest and wittiest guys I know. He has the ability to make people relax and smile. I love that about him. If I could I'd buy him the world, he is my partner, my best friend and there is nothing I wouldn't do for this man.

This week I'll praise him and look for those things he does that only he can do and call him on them.

30-Day Challenge
Day 5: Husband Encouragement

September 6, 2010

Let my words bring life, not death to my husband! I wouldn't say I'm terrible at tearing him down but even in my thoughts I can be pretty negative sometimes. Not seeing the whole picture or not wanting to change something in myself can even make me tear myself down and  in turn tear him down as well.

Day Five:   "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers." Eph. 4:29

Edify is the word of this passage. It means "to build up" and only positive comments encourage and build, negative comments discourage and tear down. I'll be focusing on building Mr. Dreamy up in public, before friends and family. One question asked was, does your mother-in-law know how much you love your husband?

You know I'm sure she does but I don't know if I've told her how awesome I think he is, how meaningful he is and how he enriches my life. I might just have to write her a letter. Today is a holiday and my hubby always jumps on the chance to work on holidays, more money right? Thank you Lord for such a diligent working husband and  a man who fears you. 30-Day Challenge
Day 4: Husband Encouragement

August 15, 2010

Do I dump on my husband at the end of a work day? Well I don't know. We stay in touch with google talk that we pretty much cover stuff as we can or as it happens. I'm sure I have though. Day four's challenge is about strengthening my husband with my words. "A wise wife will make her husband feel that she values and appreciates his work"

Day: Four                                  "...let him labor, working with his hands what is good..." Eph. 4:28

Mr. Dreamy's work allows us to be a Home-Mom sort of family, without his income and his budgeting sense I'd still be working. I was able to leave work 2 years ago, I had envisioned myself climbing the corporate ladder to allow for him to stay home but that wasn't his vision and would have drove me crazy in the end. I don't want to take what my hubby does for granted, he provides for your family. He has the important job of being the head of our family, and he has a huge responsibility in keeping me inline ;)

I'm really loving this challenge, to join in on the fun visit Revive Our Hearts with Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

Day 3: Husband Encouragement

August 7, 2010

Seriously the next day after Day 2's challenge Mr. Dreamy showed me one of the greatest acts of kindness. He washed the dishes! I have been off and on exhausted and that day I took a nap on the couch. When I woke up he had done some dishes and really got the ball rolling for me to finish up. You may be wondering why I finished, I'd just let them get backed up that much but also it takes a lot for my hubby to do tedious tasks. Dishes may not seem tedious but there's all sorts of organization that goes on, sorting, and stacking, and so on. It meant so much to me that he attempted such a task unasked. Yep He loves me!

Day Three:                                     "...love suffers long, and is kind..." 1 Cor. 13:4

"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Phil. 4:19
ooh, 2 verses ;)

So now I'm on to day 3, maybe if I didn't have 3 kids, I could do this daily but I think doing it weekly helps the message to sink in better. I take each task and really try to chew on it the entire week. This week I am to continue to speak positively to and about my husband. I'm to notice the things he does to help me and encourage and acknowledge them. The study says to be aware that he may not be gentle but I think he is more gentle than me sometimes. We sometimes joke that I'm the "man" because I have more muscle strength then him. I've always been the strong girl (maybe that's why no one messed with me growing up, lol).

Don't complain when he does do something for you in his way. For instance, I'd never tell him because it's just not important, I ended up redoing the dishes he had loaded up. That's what I meant when I said he got the ball rolling. I zoomed through the kitchen that day and got it all clean because he got me started in the right direction.

Nancy says: "...you can't expect your husband to make you feel more secure, loved, etc. Remember that only God can meet the deepest needs of your heart."

He is the daddy I wish I'd had, our children are so blessed!

30-Day Challenge
Day 2: Husband Encouragement

August 4, 2010

Since I started this challenge late in the day Mr. Dreamy was at work, but I've been doing thise already so I feel caught up. It's never hard to encourage, unless I'm mad about something. If anything it's usually something really silly. I can still blame a lot of it on hormones with 15 more weeks to go.

Day Two:                                   "...through love serve one another." Gal. 5:13b

Today I get to think of ways to my husband serves me and the family. I like to say I'm the glue that holds it all together, if that is so than he is the glue bottle. He really holds me together. I may not always like it but he keeps me in line in a very sincere and calm way.

He does a lot of things for our family that I probably don't give enough credit for. He doesn't know all about cars but he'll get out there and fix some major and costly issues. It usually turns into a partnership project (since I'm the muscle) but together we save tons of money in labor. He is my technical nerd, without him I probably wouldn't have a computer. He's built our computers and maintained them so we never have to send it off to the shop.

I owe a lot of finding out who I am to him. He sees so much more about me than I ever could and just the fact that he loves me and would lay down his life for me lets me know all I need to know. As I write my eyes tear up, I didn't marry a perfect man, I married the perfect man for me. God knows me and gave me exactly what I needed.

Visit Revive Our Hearts with Nancy Leigh Demoss and begin this simple but highly effective challenge. No, our marriage is not on the rocks. However it can always get better.

He truly deserves the "best daddy" award.

30-Day Challenge
Day 1: Husband Encouragement

August 3, 2010

I saw this challenge on another blog and decided if I can blog 31 days to build a better blog I can build my husband a better wife in 30. If you'd like to join the challenge, instructions can be found at Revive Our Hearts with Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

Day One: "The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life." Prov. 31:11-12

For the next 30 days I am not to speak negatively about my hubby, to him, or to anyone else about him.
I am to say something that I admire about him either to him or to someone else about him. Lately I have really been thinking "you know my husband really loves me..." I don't know why that is some new epiphany for me but it has been. So this is what I plan to do this week.

  • Thank him for choosing me to be his bride
  • Tell him how blessed I feel that God led us together and that I want to be a blessing to him for the rest of our marriage.

A Suggestion from Nancy:
One of the best opportunities to express your gratitude is first thing in the morning. How do you greet your husband each morning? Is he confident in your love? Give him a "wake up call" that he'll never forget-a big "I love you" and an "I'm so glad I'm your wife!"

One of the happiest most beautiful days of my life.
