Soooo Strawesome!

February 4, 2011

Welcome to the first HM Feb Gift Guide! Sharing the love.

T
here are just some things we can't recycle or use less of it seems. Take straws for instance. We use them at restaurants, on the go, and even at home. They pretty much have been made to be one-time-use. Such a waste when you add it all up. It would be hard to outright eliminate all plastics in our daily uses with concerns of BPAs and phthalates. Don't ask me to explain what these are but they are harmful and in my opinion the leading causes of early menstrating in young girls, increase in certain kinds of cancer, and to put it simply toxic.

Introducing...

Strawesome is a company that saw a problem and made a solution. The solution is the reusable drinking straw made of glass. Stylish, Strong, and Super committed to keeping our earth a little greener.

Here are some facts on these unique glass drinking straws:
  • Made of borosilicate glass tubing which is the strongest commercially available glass. This is the same glass that Pyrex® is made from.
  • Borosilicate glass is also non-toxic, so you can feel confident when drinking hot or cold liquids that no toxins are leaching into your beverage.
  • Annealed (slowly cooled to make it tougher and less brittle) so that it is dishwasher safe.
  • Beautiful yet functional. The decorative version allows you to distinguish which straw is yours and also stops it from rolling on flat surfaces.
  • Handmade in the USA
  • 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you don’t love your straw, send it back for a full refund.
  • Lifetime guarantee against breakage. If you break it we will replace it

I received the Big Daddy Bent Smoothie
for the purpose of this review...

isn't it pretty?

Strawesome states an added bonus on their site: Want to help your kids eat more fruits & vegetables? Make it fun with a green smoothie and a glass straw.

The Recipe:
We make yummy smoothies with handfuls of spinach in the blender with raw sugar and frozen fruits.

Start with water or fruit juice, maybe a cup or 2.
Add sugar to taste (optional)
Add a handful of spinach (depending on taste a little can go a long way)
Pulse your blender until the spinach is well blended making green water.
Slowly add in your frozen fruits, blend to the consistency you like.
Pour and Share.

Glass straws would really make the kids more excited to drink them. ou can't taste the spinach at all. I've found that I tend to drink more water because of the big mouth opening. The straw I received is geared towards smoothies and can cause drippage if you're not use to it. There are all sorts of lengths, designs, and even bent or straight it was really hard for me to choose. Carrying cases are are available to take with you when you dine out

Starting at $6 for a single 6" straw then moving up to bigger sets, going green with style couldn't be easier.
